Where to go from here?
I took some "mental" time off in order to celebrate my 35th birthday; a celebration that normally takes 2 weeks, condensed in this case to a week of relaxation and catching up on sleep. Since then, I'm at a loss as to the latest "theme" for the Frank Report. Should it be a periodic update of my doings, or a play-by-play on my fitness quest. Normally, my life is filled with interesting tidbits and new adventures, but honestly, since I've started to lose weight, my life has gotten quite boring. Little more than eat-sleep-work-exercise-chores. Not that that's a bad thing, mind you. There have been times in my life, caught at the center of my usual self-destructive maelstrom, that I've prayed for just such a quiet, orderly life. (Scratch another item off the list.) But with most wishes, the having is significantly different from the wanting.

So for lack of anything better to talk about: exercise. I experienced my first "Men's Fitness" moment at the gym recently. My abs have graduated from basic crunches to the much more elaborate routines that require an apparatus and diagram. I can do incline crunches now, where before, my back would go out after the first two. I can do incline situps as well and hope to (one day) get to the point where I can do them almost upside down. Just like all those action-movie scenes where the lone hero hangs upside down from a bar doing situps as a metaphor for some tortured internal commitment to excellence. Like that, but without the soundtrack. I am also doing fancy "combo" routines, like laying on a bench with my legs hovering over the floor, curling them all the way back towards my head and then pushing them straight up into the air. That'll suck the oxygen out of your lungs, let me tell you.

The downside is that I've skipped so many cardio workouts that my running distance is back to one mile. Hopefully it won't take as long to restore as it took to build up my tolerance in the first place.

My weight remains the same (206lbs) and since my appearance is changing, I (:::pray, pray, pray:::) that it's due to muscle gain rather than a failure to lose fat.

Fascinating or not, those are the highlights.
